Conservation Work Begins…(or ghosts of Christmas past)

The original owner of Oakmead was a man of many projects. An old and neglected Christmas tree enterprise he started now presents as large unthinned blocks of Norway Spruce which supports little wildlife. Scott Fairbairn, a local tree surgeon specialising in conservation work, is logging the trees and enabling the planting of small groves of Birches and Alders that will greatly improve the biodiversity and enrich wildlife. The other knock on effect is there’ll be plenty of felled spruce for the wood burner! and the opportunity to create  long benches and rustic seats for guests at our self catering cottage to sit on and count the wildlife which includes Herons, Kingfishers, Otters and leaping Wild Trout.
