Walk on the Wild Side

For guests at Oakmead we recommend visiting the Exmoor National Park. Put on some sturdy shoes and walk this very special part of the SW Coastal Path just a short drive from your self-catering accommodation  Acorn Retreat.

The Valley of the Rocks lies 1 mile west of Lynton – follow the signs from Lynton. Loads of parking (£1 per hour) Walk past the Edwardian Cricket ground (as featured on Countryfile) a much sought after venue for touring cricket teams because of its idyllic location.  A herd of wild goats are scattered around browsing along the route adding to the atmosphere. After the cricket pavilion join the SW Coastal Path and either tootle along the path sitting at the many benches taking in the dramatic coastline and complete a short circuit back to the car or take on the longer circuit of 8 miles (2.40 hours) Valley of the Rocks, to Watersmeet, Lynmouth and back again. Superb for dogs walkers – see path on left of photo. On the way home call into the Poltimore Arms (2 miles from Acorn Retreat) try this weeks guest beer and have a go on the antique Pianola.
